Glenn, Carpenter, and Friendship 7

asonlynasacan:

Senator John Glenn and Commander Scott Carpenter pose in front of the Friendship 7 spacecraft at the National Air and Space Museum before the annual John H Glenn Lecture on June 23, 2011. The Mercury spacecraft is the one that Glenn flew into space aboard, making him the first American to orbit the Earth on February 20, 1962. Carpenter, the second American to orbit the Earth, and Glenn are the only surviving astronauts of the Mercury program.

This year’s lecture, “An Evening with Two Mercury Astronauts”, features Glenn and Carpenter.
