Sally Ride wears them on STS-7 because they were issued to her by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Any morons who clutch their pearls over showing a little thigh in outer space can GTFO. WTF??? Some people b*** about anything. Their complaints are also sexist as all hell. Wait, didn’t lots of people wear short shorts in the 80s? Wasn’t that one of the styles? In Riding Rockets, Mike Mullane recalls the time he served as capcom during the shuttle mission with the Saudi Arabian prince. At one point, Mullane was asked to tell Shannon Lucid - who was also on the mission - that she should wear pants and forego the short shorts, because it might offend the Saudis back home. Mullane “forgot” to tell her. Look at any men’s basketball team from the 60s through the 80s, and they’re all wearing those shorts. And astronauts were wearing them even in the Apollo days - and those shorts were so scandalous that NASA printed their logo on them. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think I read in the same book that Judy Resnik’s legs front and center were considered a bit risqué in this photo of the STS-41-D crew: I mean, really?
