With the 50th anniversary of Friendship 7 upon us, I thought that it was high time to bring back the excellent “Press Conference” photoset. This photoset took place in the fall of 1961, when it was announced that John Glenn would fly the first American orbital mission, and that Scott Carpenter would serve as backup.

I’m sure that Ralph Morse intended to take actual press conference pictures; but this photoset swiftly devolves into nothing but Glenn/Carpenter bro photos. Which is why it’s so amazing.
